CS Major: Any other schools you would suggest?

Anonymous
My senior has been admitted to Pitt and Minnesota for CS. He is waiting on NEU, CU Boulder, VT, and WPI. He has a 3.7 UW (public school, 6 APs) and 1390 SAT. He has good ECs in CS with some leadership, but nothing spectacular. He is very happy with his current two choices but thinking about adding another reach in the regular decision round. For the most part, he prefers larger urban schools. He likes cold weather!

Any suggestions for other schools? Thanks!

OP here: Yes, we are full pay.

Location is not too desirable but RPI is a solid school for CS and Tech.

Is he willing to go far? University of Washington is a big school in the middle of a city with outstanding CS.

I think he'll love Pitt, based on your description.

Washington is basically impossible to get into OOS for CS. They recently decided to accept only 50 kids per year OOS for CS (and 1150 in-state). Looks like many states are giving priority to in-state and making it nearly impossible for OOS.

I’m not sure what kind of stats you need for IUPUI (not a CS household) but I’ve heard great things.

I'd add Winconsin-Madison as a reach.

Pitt is rated 54 in CS vs. 63 for Case. RPI is #55.

All great options, but if you are going for a reach...why those? Wisconsin fits the bill at #17.

I place a ton of value on location so Pitt is just a really good option IMO. So much start-up activity in AI and other bleeding-edge industries (yes, CMU spinning off a ton, but they are hiring Pitt grads) so opportunities for internships during the school year because you are just down the street.
