Adult Children
| DS is living with us this year while attending UMD. I keep finding empty energy drink bottles in his room and in the car. He claims it helps him study and do better in classes. Would you be bothered by it? |
| What is bothering you, exactly, that he is drinking them or that he isn't disposing of the bottles? |
| I likely would be bothered by habits I perceive as unhealthy but adults can make their own decisions about that; I wouldn’t say anything. Presumably I had a chance to tell them how I felt when they were still kids. I would treat an adult living under my roof as an adult. I would not be “finding” things in their room and I would expect them to clean up after themselves rather than leave trash in the car. |
| I don't like coffee and drink energy drinks all the time. It's fine. |
| OP here. I am bothered because it's unhealthy habit(i think?). I am not looking through his stuff, we share a car and I see them everywhere including trash cans. I don't care how messy or not his room is. I never drank those and though they were really bad for you. Am I wrong? |
You should ask yourself - would I even know about this if the kid were living in a dorm? No? Then it's not for you to worry about. |
| If your kid's worst health habit is too many energy drinks, count yourself lucky. |
| None of your business. |
| Energy drinks like what exactly? |
| Energy drinks are just borrowing energy from Future You. It will catch up with him. Red Bull is awful for people. |
Care to share the study? I don’t even drink them but curious about the “borrowing energy from future you”? |
Like red bull |
They are bad for you. But college kids think they are invincible. You can mention it ONCE and then back off. |

If you have any friends that are cardiologists, invite them to dinner, and talk ahead of time so that you can work this into the conversation.
The cardiologists I know (2 differentnones in the DMV) are seeing more and more young people having heart attacks due to the energy drinks. For real. |
