| My child would like to study ASL for foreign language credit but unfortunately it is not offered at our home school. Has anyone found an outside ASL class that MCPS approved for foreign language course credit? I understand that the school principal has discretion to grant credit for a course taken outside or school or even independent study. I've found many online ASL classes - but it would be great to know if there is one that MCPS has already approved for credit. Thanks! |

| Montgomery College will be challenging because they don't offer any remote/virtual ASL classes. Any other options? |
have you not run searches for language schools near you, or ASL teachers, etc? DCUM is not the only source of this kind of info. |
| As an adult who wants to take ASL due to hearing loss, I have found it very difficult to find a course. Montgomery College is your best bet. Your child can do it through a variety of programs that MCPS has set up. Ask at your HS. |

It is not a matter of finding a language course - there are many. The challenge is finding one that MCPS will accept for credit! |
A few years ago, I had a number of students who were from international families and completing the educational program for their home country while enrolled in MCPS. All were fluent in a home language not taught in MCPS. The families all tried to get MCPS to grant credit for Greek, Modern Hebrew, Portuguese, etc. with no success. |
