Bottle at bedtime- is this bad?

Anonymous
We weaned my now 15 mo old DS off his bedtime bottle around 3 months ago. After several weeks of bedtime struggles, I started giving him an empty bottle to suck on while we do his bedtime routine (read books, sing song, sound machine on, lights off). I can put him in his crib drowsy while he’s still holding on to the bottle and he puts himself to sleep. I then sneak in 30 mins later and remove the bottle from the crib. Is there anything wrong with continuing with this? I’m worried I’m creating a bad habit but it’s so effective to get him to sleep!

Just follow it up with water for the teeth/gums.

Is he sucking in empty air? He could get gas maybe? You could have a hard time breaking this habit, just like a soother.

Yes- there’s nothing in the bottle. I haven’t noticed him extra gassy (just regular toddler farts haha)

Seems fine.

I'd give a snack before bed, no bottle in bed.

If you are worried about ingesting air, seal the nipple or put a sealing disc on the bottle under the nipple. Pat yourself on the back for being able to put him to bed so easily.

It’s effectively a pacifier. I wouldn’t worry about it unless he still needs/wants it at like 4.
