| Do any mcps have them? |
Not in any of the schools my kids attend or the schools I work in. Can’t imagine MCPS could even afford the staff necessary to effectively use one. |
| Not enough time before school to run all the kids through them. |
| Ineffective waste of money that increases fear but does little to actually reduce violence and weapons in schools. |
| No, but it would make sense at least in MS or HS. |
As every phone and binder and calculator set it off? No thanks. |
| Most schools have 3-6 entrances/exits, not including windows. When I taught HS last, students propped up doors and windows so they could get drugs into the building. |
I don’t understand this. Why didn’t they just put the drugs in their pocket? Were they being frisked every morning when they walked in? |
You are replying to a troll. Either ignore, or better yet, report. |
Deliveries come during the day from friends dropping by school. This is a well-known phenomenon. |

They looked into how much it would cost a few years back.

| Well the DC schools have it! Most schools have it! |
Most suburban schools do not have metal detectors. |
Most suburban schools didn’t remove their SROs and proudly tell the whole world that they had done so. |
| Metal detectors would not be effective. Our school has at least 10 exits, and if a student knocked on any of them, passing students would let them in. Plus, we would need at least three sets: one for each parking lot and one for the stadium/field access, unless we expected students to walk around the outside of the building to go through the one set of detectors. We don't have the personnel. Finally, the potential target would shift to the dozens of students standing in a nice straight line waiting at the detectors. |
