I rarely drink but I'm going on a fun group vacation soon - can anyone recommend some cocktails that are not too sweet or too strong? I would like to join in and have a cocktail with everyone else but I don't know what to order.
I drank vodka & orange and rum & coke (only occassionaly) in my twenties but both seem like they would be so sweet and sickly now. Any ideas? |
I like French 75s- gin, sparkling wine, lemon juice, simple syrup. But you could also do a gin and tonic with lots of tonic. Still a cocktail but less alcohol. |
Vodka or gin with tonic. Or just tonic and lime. |
I love a gin gimlet. |
I like vodka, sparkling water, splash of cran |
vodka soda with a splash of cranberry juice or orange juice. |
Whiskey sour |
If you rarely drink, I’d stick with wine or champagne/Prosecco. You have no control over how much hard liquor goes into cocktails and it’s easy to overdo it. |
Vodka soda, or a shot of tequila with a wedge of lime |
Paloma. Grapefruit, fizzy water or soda and tequila. Light and refreshing. Like margarita’s cousin who has a more acerbic sense of humor.

Just do a vodka soda with a splash of any kind of juice. |
You could also do wine spritzer which give your wine a fizz and you won’t get drunk. I’m also a huge fan of vodka tonics. Don’t do gin unless you want a hangover. |
I only drink Prosecco now.
If I had to have a cocktail I’d get either a margarita or some type of martini. Old fashioneds can be great but bartender has to know how to make it the right way. So many don’t. |
I like the earlier recommendations for gin based cocktails. I will add one: Tom Collins |
I also would stick to wine or beer. Cocktails are unpredictable and if you don’t usually drink the cliff can be pretty steep I’d you accidentally step off it. |
