Help, does anyone know from experience the income limit in MD for someone over the age of 65 to qualify for Medicaid? Note that for those over 64, the income limit is different than what is published and readily available in MD health connection website. I cannot find anywhere the monthly income limit for Medicaid for those over 65 and I’ve searched for days now. This is for a one person household. |
No, but have you called MD Health Connection to ask? I’ve found them to be very helpful when I’ve called about other issues. |
It's pretty low, maybe $1200 or so now. Years ago my MIL was denied for it at $1K income. |
This is OP - thanks for the replies. I’ve had the run around today for hours on end on the phone with MD health connection (they don’t provide info for older than 64), and then got bounced around to other wrong numbers. For the PP who sent the link to the document - thank you, I had seen that but still doesn’t make sense to me. As I read it, for someone over 65 without disability to income-qualify for Medicaid monthly income is 350$?! That makes no sense, that is a third of federal poverty guideline and seems absurdly low and doesn’t make sense looking at all other income limits for all other categories for an individual (all in the thousands). Tomorrow I’ll call around again… |
OP, if the person is 65 or older they should be on Medicare. Then, depending on their income, Medicaid would pay some of their health coverage and health care costs.
You might want to try contacting one of the State Health Insurance Assistance Programs in your area. You should be able to find SHIP office and counselor info through the Maryland Department of Aging— https://aging.maryland.gov/Pages/state-health-insurance-program.aspx Good luck. |
I’m the immediate PP.
This question from the Kaiser Family Foundation’s FAQs about Medicare open enrollment may be helpful: https://www.kff.org/faqs/medicare-open-enrollment-faqs/my-mom-is-an-83-year-old-widow-with-an-income-of-about-12000-and-almost-no-savings-she-is-covered-by-medicare-does-she-qualify-for-any-financial-assistance-with-her-medicare-coverage/ |
It is more than that but it may waiver around $1K. I remember applying for my MIL and she was on medicaid in another state but told no here. She did get food stamps. It was bizarre. |
If you put into Google “What is the earned income limit monthly to qualify for Medicaid in MD?
The resource limit for an individual is $2,000 and for a couple $3,000. |
Here’s a private site that gives similar information, in a somewhat less confusing way, and without the acronyms: https://www.medicaidplanningassistance.org/medicaid-eligibility-maryland/ |
