Anyone have burning mouth syndrome during menopause?

If so, what helped?

And for those who don’t know, one side effect of menopause can be a constant burning sensation in your mouth, as if you have tons of sores. I can’t seem to find any helpful suggestions besides hormone replacement therapy. I’m considering that, but have various risk factors that make the decision challenging.

Great, more mysterious menopause symptoms to worry about. Sorry, OP. That really sucks. I had HFM disease as an adult and those mouth sores were awful.

I had it when I was 45. 5 years later i am still not in menopause so I don't think you have to be in full-on menopause to get it. It started during an intense period of stress at work.

It went away after about a month, but was pretty miserable while it lasted. The pain/metallic taste got worse as the day went on, so I tried to eat in the morning. I am a doctor, and asked my friend who is a neurologist what to do, and he said 1) he had no idea what it was but it sure sounded awful, and 2) to take multivitamins (including B12). No idea if that helped, but it did ultimately go away. It didn’t get better overnight, just kind of gradually faded away.

I’m sorry that you are dealing with this. It’s very unpleasant.

Oh my god. I wonder if that’s what I’ve been experiencing. Does it affect your taste? I’ve been having a storm of peri menopausal symptoms that are clearly hormonal, but also certain things just taste off to me and cause a burning, metallic sensation that’s lasts for good while. I’ll have my husband taste and he looks at me like I’m crazy! Weird things, like granola, orange juice, coffee… All things I normally love.

Yep—it can affect taste, create a metallic taste and make your tongue sting even when there are no sores.

Was wondering if I developed an egg allergy.

Me again. I thought it was an allergy to a specific toothpaste at first, but confirmed not.
