| I'm going in for another round of monitoring tomorrow, but it's looking like I may have 3 or four follicles in this IUI cycle. I will obviously talk to my doctor, but the nurse was not at all helpful today so I'm curious if anyone knows if they'll automatically cancel my cycle if I have 3+ follicles. I am over 40, for what it's worth. Thanks! |

It all depends on the size. I have triggered with 5 and nothing happened. Only 1-2 were mature. Super painful ovulation.
Good luck. |
| What are your thoughts on multiples? |
| They cancelled one of my cycles for too many but agree with PP that it matters how many are the right size such that they could fertilize. |
|
I had 2 cycles cancelled due to too many mature follicles (7 with the first cancelled cycle and 4 with the second). I did 4 other cycles with 3 mature follicles each. I have PCOS.
None of them worked and we had to go to IVF. |

Hang in there all.
We did IUI twice but don’t remember how many follicles. They didn’t work. Our IVF did, and we were blessed with a wonderful healthy baby this year. The time and expense were worth it, and keep trying! I do believe some doctors are better tha. Others at shady grove Rockville |

Yes, OP, they will have to measure the size of the follicles before proceeding. Wishing you much luck!
PS - come back and update us. |
| Wow that is a lot - curious if that is normal for you if you have done previous medical cycles? If you're doing medical, are you taking letrozole or chlomid? Very curious as well to sizes and if they cancel. |
| Any update, OP? |
| OP here. You were all correct that the size mattered and all four of mine didn’t end up fully maturing. At my last monitoring the ultrasound tech said I had one 18.4 and two around 17.5, but when the nurse called later they say she said I had just two, one around 18 and one around 17. Did my IUI today so we shall see! Thank you all for your input 😊 |
