Messy eater recommendations?

Anonymous
My 17 month old is a wreck when he eats. Food up to his elbows, on his pants, somehow on the bottom of his socks. He is sitting in his high chair so some of this is a mystery to me. We've been using the silicone bibs with pockets but I want to step up my game. Does anyone have any favorites? In the summer we just stripped down before eating but it's getting too cold for that to be practical, and the amount of laundry I do is wild.

I had designated eating shirts - red one for pasta, yellow one for mac and cheese, etc. In your case, you might want designated eating onesies!

Serve less food at a time. Teach him not to be messy as opposed to figuring out how to contain the mess.
But there are art smocks with sleeve which may work in the short term.

Put him in a craft smock. Crayons has one for $3. Goes on like backwards dress shirt with Velcro at back. Then pocket bin over it. But agree you are prob giving too much food at once if he’s making a huge mess. Start with a dish with 10 elbow macaroni in sauce instead of 30. Then spoon out more as he finishes. Both the above will cut down on mess.

The craft apron is a good idea. I never had much luck with bibs so would remove my toddler’s shirt at least for a while. It just seemed like the most fail proof route.
