| Since COGAT scores are out, when will parents be notified if their child is in pool or not? |
| Parent refer. The pool is just for children who don’t have parents who are able to advocate for them. Everyone should parent refer!!! |
| It’s going to be notified next year-I think it was around Feb or March. It is recommended to parent refer no matter what. |
Hmm, it was earlier than that I thought? Scores are out way early this year, so pool letters should be too. Ask your AART. |
I think pp was confusing AAP acceptance notification with in-pool notification. Either way, it doesn’t matter and AART will tell you that you should fill out the referral packet whether DC is in pool or not. |
If I remember the timeline correctly for 20-21, in-pool notification was sent out in Feb or so and then level IV acceptance letter was sent in April, however it sounds reasonable for earlier announcements as Cogat scores are released earlier. |
| Last yr pool letters came first, in early December. Then we got COGAT scores around 12/10, 5 days before apps were due |
That timeline was Covid specific. In Pool letters come out in December. But you should always parent refer if you think your kid should be in aap. |
|
I got the COGAT score report yesterday. It was sent home in my child's folder, but nothing about being in pool. The score report did not even include any local score percentages, just grade percentile ranks.
Does this mean my child is not in pool? Or has that not come out yet? |
In-pool letters come separately, later. I don’t think FCPS provides local percentiles any more. My son’s report last year didn’t include them either. |
| Thanks! That helps! With my oldest, who is now in middle school, I think they came at the same time but I wasn't sure if that changed. |
NP here. If they don’t provide local percentiles, how do you know if your kid meets the school’s cut-off? Sorry, we are new to all of this. |
You don’t, until you get (or don’t get) the in-pool letter. But the local percentiles they used to provide wouldn’t have helped anyway. Those were FCPS-wide. What matters now is each individual elementary. You can ask your AART but there’s a good chance they don’t know yet either. Last year the AARTs seemed to know very little. |

FYI, here's a summary from a thread last year of posted scores from various pyramids. Kids in the first group didn't make the pool. Those in the second group did. Obviously not scientific, but interesting. Also, tells us nothing about who was actually accepted. Pool status only identifies the top 10% of scorers in each school.
