I would love advice on a double stroller. Our oldest will be about 2 1/2 when the baby arrives. Will he still even want to ride in a stoller? What stollers are good for that type of age difference? How long do children ride in strollers? |
I'm also in the same situation. Don't know if I should necessarily if a double stroller is worth the money. There are definitely times he wants to go in the stroller but for the most part walks. I was thinking of getting a sit and stand stroller. I haven't heard the best reviews from people regarding the baby trend that they sell at Target. I've heard it is very heavy and can be difficult to push up hills with both kids, think the zoo. Some people have said they like the joovy caboose and I haven't heard anything about the one One Step Ahead sells but it looks good from the description and the pictures. |
If you do a lot of walking and don't depend on a car, you will want a double stroller. My daughter was three when the baby arrived, and while she is capable of walking long distances, she doesn't always want to. I spent the first few weeks of my son's life watching her have tantrums because she didn't want to walk, and I didn't have a stroller.
I bought a Phil and Ted double stroller, and think that it was worth every penny. My daughter is now three and a half, and we still use the stroller on weekends. Half the time, she ends up walking, but having the stroller gives me freedom to go where I want to go at my own speed. I might consider selling this stroller at the end of the summer, but will definitely hold on to it until then. You'll get at least a good year and a half out of your double - if you get the Phil and Ted, you have the flexibility of continuing to use the stroller as a single. |
I thought the exact same thing when I had my 2nd and we got the Joovy Caboose. However, immediately after my second son was born, my first son (age 2) who had been anti-stroller for awhile, immediately wanted to ride in the stroller again! So we used the Joovy Caboose for awhile while my infant was still in his infant seat and my older son reluctantly sat in the back on the bench, but as soon as my baby could sit up, we bought a double umbrella stroller (Chicco) and that has worked great for us ever since. The bad thing about the Joovy is that when the infant seat is in it, the child riding in the back has to sort of hunch over - it is not the most comfortable ride.
We bought this one: http://www.babydirect.com/p-5756-chicco-citta-twin-lightweight-umbrella-double-stroller.aspx |
Another thing to think about is whether your toddler naps in strollers. Mine will easily nap in a stroller so I really needed a double with room for both to sleep so that I'm not forced to head home if out walking. This is especially important because my toddler gets so cranky when she's tired.
I don't have a Phil & Ted's but my best friend does and uses it still now that her oldest is 4 and youngest is 18 months. What I like about it is that you can use it for one or two and you don't look lopsided when only one kid is there... so it's a longer term purchase. I, on the other hand, have a baby jogger double city mini but my babies are much closer in age. Best of luck and congratulations on the new baby coming! |
