Where to find this stuffing bread?

Anonymous
When we’ve done holidays in New Jersey or New England, we always find something called stuffing bread, which is inexpensive fluffy white bread, not sliced. gold metal makes one, and it comes in an orange bag, but I’m sure there are others. I didn’t see it in Safeway, only sliced white bread, and pre-cut stuffing cubes. Has anyone seen this somewhere locally in a big supermarket chain? Thanks!

You can find unsliced loaves of fluffy white "Italian bread" in supermarkets like Giant.

Thanks, but that is crustier than what I am looking for, which is more like unsliced Wonder Bread.

Just use wonder bread and tear or cut it up into cubes yourself

It’s sliced too thin - turns into mush. Really, no one has seen this around here?!

I can’t even find it on google.

I’d try getting a cheap load of Italian bread and cut the crusts off - it should be the right texture in the middle. If that’s not what you want, I’d use challah.

If you have an Amish market near you, they sell loaves of their bread unsliced.

If you live near a Wegmans, you might be able to luck out and ask them to just sell you an unsliced loaf of white bread. But no, you are unlikely to get a loaf of unsliced bread from Giant.

I've definitely seen this before, but can't find it. Would Texas Toast sliced bread work? Or sub rolls (the ones that are basically giant hotdog buns, not the crusty ones)

Here’s a link to it at the New England stores for those that are curious…

Just get a brioche loaf. Should be similar consistency and not crusty.

I've seen it at a Weis in Hagerstown, MD, but it's been years. I've been having this internal dialogue about driving all the way to Hagerstown for a single loaf of bread. Have to say, it makes the best stuffing I've ever had. You're supposed to tear it with your hands and leave it out overnight to dry out.

OP here - then buy 5! seriously though thanks for validating that I’m not crazy for really wanting this particular bread. we’ve always used it and it is really good. I guess I will keep looking…

Try Wegman’s? They have a lot of NY/NJ stuff which isn’t always available here.
