I'm curious about what draws people in different directions. I know certain authors or popular books can make you want to read a certain title or series, but beyond that is there anything about that particular genre that makes you say "this is what I'm looking for"?
For me, I have always loved coming of age stories. I generally find them in the fantasy realm but I'm not interested in the dragons and magic and elves and warewolves, and many times I have to put books down when they go too far in that direction. But the going from nobody and unrealized talent to realizing that talent, getting mentored and sometimes challenging that mentoring, it's generally what I look for in a book. Interesting thing is that I've also branched into biographies more now too. Obviously they have the coming of age part as well. I was initially turned away from them because I was not interested in the background people then the star of the story, but I'm getting over that some. What about you though? What draws you to romance or historical fiction or mysteries or other genres? |
