strollers for twins

Anonymous
We are looking to buy a stroller for are newborn twins. (They're still in the NICU). We looked at Kolcraft and Graco, anyone used them or has better suggestions. We wanted the whole travel system so we can use them for the car seat as well. Also looked at Snap n go.

thanx

I'd start with the snap and go and then figure out your needs later from there. The stroller you pick now may very well not be the one you'll want later! The snap and go is convenient and easy, and you could probably find one used if money is an issue.

Snap and Go or similar is THE BEST. Much cheaper and lighter weight than a travel system.

We used the double snap-n-go with our snug-ride car seats until our twins were out of the car seats around 7 months.
Then bought a Maclaren Twin Triumph which we've been very happy with. Lightweight and good for stashing in the car trunk, using when shopping, etc.
Just bought a Bob Duallie because we moved to the city and have been doing lots of walking up and down curbs.

I think almost all twin parents start out with the double snap-n-go.

you can change the settings of the snap and go - I know that it can accomodate Graco Snug Ride and the Briatx Companion (among others.)

all the car seats we looked at have a minimum weight limit of 5#. My twins may not be 5 when they get discharged. Any suggestions? Or what did other people do who had smaller babies or preemies?

We use the double Snap and Go and are very happy with it. We also had preemies and stressed over the car seats. We ended up purchasing the Britax Companion seats because they accomodate 4 lb. babies. Our twins actually ended up being in the NICU well beyond the 4 lb. mark, so it was a lot of stress over nothing (as far as the car seat weights go), but we are happy with the Companion car seats and they work well with the Snap and Go without any special adjustments (beware of Great Beginnings, which will tell you that you need to reconfigure - you don't). We haven't gotten to the next stroller yet, but have a Maclaren Triumph and are pondering something more substantial for the city streets. Don't bother with the Maclaren Techno - it seems to be the same as the Triumph, but in better colors for an additional $100+.

we used the peg perego twin aria b/c it is extremely light and easy to carry. we also preferred the side by side, so one baby didn't have to look at the back of a seat. it is also good over the city sidewalks.

we opted for this over the travel system kinds because we knew that we'd have to buy new car seats anyway one they outgrew the rear facing ones. this stroller took us all the way through to 3.5 years, when they refused to get into any stroller ("too baby" they declared).

things might be different now since this was several years ago, but it might be worth taking a look at.

For poster who asked about what to do with preemie babies who don't fit in a car seat, you may want to check out a car bed. I think Angel Care makes one. I have seen them posted ocassionally on Craig's List.
