All I can say is it sounds like the random days off are here to stay. |
Yes it is a disgrace. Kids learning and consistently isn't the priority |
Yup.
The pretense that the religious days off are operationally required is ridiculous when that county alignment is not factored in re: 1) start date, 2) end date, 3) winter break, 4) spring break. I find it galling that they would not let us weigh in on those days when they are the main change this year. |
Not only that but the questions clearly demonstrate they want to add more random time off for even more planning time or professional development |
They are trying to address the inequity of planning time. Secondary teachers get far more planning time than elementary. I’m a teacher too so curious if a staff survey will come out.
They’ve already said religious days are set through 24-25. I find it hilarious that they put this much time into the questions and they don’t really care what anyone thinks. |
They should go back to short days on Monday (or another day). APS still has them, don't they? |
Oh Gosh. I hope no more Monday half days. We had that when I was a kid and was so bad for working parents. I wish FCPS had some interest in our kids education and not just the welfare of the FCpS employees. |
Does anyone have the link for the survey? |
They want to shorten the amount of time elementary kids are in school to provide "additional support for children." Does that make any sense to anyone? |
When the elementary school teachers don't have enough planning time, that hurts students. And that's bad for working parents. Btw working parents are already paying for aftercare so a couple more hours one day a week isn't a problem for working parents. It's more of an impact for SAHPs |
I responded and added notes that the additional religious days off are ridiculous - particularly in light of how hard Ds have pushed to have church and state separated.
Whether that will be honored is anyone's guess but keep in mind that 2023 is FINALLY a school board election year. The 2023 calendar will be my voting point Complete the survey by Dec 1! |
So many ridiculous options on there and I highly doubt they will be taking any of this into consideration. Shortening spring break by 2 days is not the issue with the calendar. 2 or 3 hour late arrival? |
Make sure you choose to replace new holidays with "old" ones. So let's take off Diwali instead of Columbus Day, and take off Eid instead of President's Day, and so on. Remember... 180 days is 180 days... we just need them arranged in the best possible combination for everyone. |
You wish FCPS had some interest in our kids education and in the same breath say half day Mondays are "so bad for working parents." Make it make sense. None of this has anything to do with FCPS employees. It is entirely the product of special interest groups. |
Yes. It takes time to plan small group instruction. Better planning will have better results for students. |
