Tylenol and autism

Has anyone heard of the link between taking Tylenol while pregnant and higher incidences or ADHD and autism in children? I was shocked to read this is a thing today.

I heard this when I was pregnant 20 years ago. I do know one person who took it during her pregnancy and her child was fine.

I remember my OB saying Tylenol during pregnancy was ok but Advil was not. The studies are concerning.

I remember having a high fever when I was pregnant with my son. The doctor told me to take a Tylenol and I resisted because I didn’t want to hurt the baby. She said that the fever was more of a risk than the Tylenol so I took it. He is fine but the study goes to show how little doctors know,

Anecdotally I took it as needed during both my pregnancies and both my children (now teens) are fine. The studies are intriguing though and I do wonder if there is something to it.

I had a high fever during my second pregnancy and DC has autism. But there were a lot of other complications during pregnancy as well, and DC's sibling has autism and there is some possible/probable family history as well. So I never thought the high fever or the medication I took then was causative. But maybe it was one factor?

The studies are definitely concerning. I think it would be foolish to gamble with this

Yes - I think it is insane that OBs don’t mention this and it makes me question the other medicines they deem safe.

I took Tylenol on and off occasionally throughout my 2 pregnancies and I have one NT kid and one with autism. I’ve heard about the class action lawsuits but did the makers of Tylenol admit fault, was there a trial, or did they just agree to settle? And is it just Tylenol that’s the problem or all acetaminophen, even the generics?

I think this is easily one of those cases that shows that correlation does not imply causation. So many women take acetaminophen during pregnancy, that it's impossible to point at any one child and declare they are affected. There is also a known link between SSRI antidepressants and autism. Once again, though, this does not prove the drugs cause the condition.

Could it be that women with depression are more likely to have a child with autism? Could it be that women took Tylenol because they were ill during pregnancy, and the illness made it more likely the child had autism?

Yes, I've known for a decade or more perhaps.

I had to get some fairly extensive dental surgery during one of my pregnancies and I was too freaked out to take anything. Ended up just pushing through and it was horrible. But I don't really trust they know enough about these things to take the chance.

I also had all medication-free births. But by far the oral surgery pain was the worst. Normally people get vicodin for a week after a procedure like that.

I sprained my ankle when pregnant and OB ok’d me to take it. No issues at all - kid is a teen now.

I knew it when I was pregnant in 2015-2016. But I read a study that said you could take it like 24 or 29 times during your pregnancy. I can’t remember the exact number. And please don’t ask me to find the study. I have no idea where I read it but I know it was scientific study or reporting of a scientific study not some random person saying it.
