Does your child’s therapist charge you for parent check ins?

Just wondering what is and is not typical

For short questions by email, no. For longer check ins that we schedule in advance and last 30-45 minutes, yes. He includes it on the monthly super bill and we get reimbursed at the same rate as a regular session.

If I ask for the last 5min of a session, no. It’s just part of my kids session. Once a qtr, we have a session to discuss progress. I am charged for this.

Calls for more than 20 minutes = yes

Wow I can't believe you would expect free time from a professional.

I'm an attorney. I charge my clients for anything beyond a quick email response. Ten clients a day sending ten "quick" email questions - adds up to an hour of my time. $1200.

I like to think of all of DS's team the same. Sometimes when they try and suggest they're not going to charge me here and there, I'm insistent that they charge me. I am mindful that these are all women doing "caregiving" roles. They all have masters and phds, and deserve to be paid for their expertise.

+1 This is how it works for our provider. It’s reasonable that his time is compensated.
