Honors and Awards- how many did your DC fill in out of the 5?

And DC had more than 5, what did you do? How did you prioritize?

Is there where you would mention end of the year academic awards? Like the English class award, etc.? DS is class of 2024 so we haven't looked at the Common App yet.

Many kids have none. At our MCPS high school, we have no honor roll and no end of year class awards. My DC is a junior and as of now, I only anticipate NHS.

Is NHS and award/honor or an activity?

Can be either. If you’re an officer or very active, activity. If you’re not, an award. Also depends on where you have blanks to fill.

Combine similar awards.

Either by discipline:
"Writing awards (Mark Twain Award; County-Wide Reflections Contest"

Or else similar types of awards:
"Three National Academic Honor Societies (English, Spanish, Science)"

You can win awards outside of school. My son won a battle of the bands thing, a hebrew school award, and an award in our town for collecting donations for a homeless shelter for battered women. None of these had anything to do with school.

It says "academic" awards, but I agree with you, PP. My kid listed awards won outside of school and some had to do with community service or national awards in an academic-type competition (think chess, etc).

My kid was told to put those type of awards in activities with the activity.

Good info.

4? Academic Honor Society, French Honor Society, junior class award, and summer scholarship program, that's what she had. I think there may have been a place to add additional info about awards. See Christine Lee's "Stats" video for more info, if I remember correctly, she mentions additional activities elsewhere.

What about an academic team award? My kid's team got an innovation award, and dc was instrumental in one of the aspects that won the team award.

Could you list a prestigious internship in awards/honors? DD has a lot of activities already but not a ton of awards.
