Therapists with experience working with trans teens

Anonymous
We are looking for a therapist for our teenage trans son. He's struggling a bit and would really like to meet with someone who has experience treating trans kids and the unique issues they face. He had two therapists with LGBTQIA+ experience, but neither had done much work with trans kids. He knows he's trans, that's not the issue, but would like to talk through some of the adjacencies.

I know most mental health professionals have waitlists but I'd love to get the names anyway. Thanks for the help.

We found ours through psychologytoday.com.

We wanted to address depression, but also wanted the therapist to have worked with transgender kids (for the same reason).

The PT site has filters, and you can filter by transgender. This doesn’t mean the therapist is trans (it looks a little confusing). If you scroll down the page, or to the right if on mobile, you’ll see many explicitly include in the Communities section that they are transgender allied.

We ended up doing this because you can narrow by location, by who is accepting new patients, age groups, cost, etc.

Where are you willing to drive to?

Both of my trans friends do therapy through Whitman-Walker.

Thank you, I'll look at the site. We're willing to drive anywhere in the DMV area. Hoping for in-person but it doesn't need to be.
