Our nanny has worked for us for a few years. We always do a nice bonus and a raise before Xmas. I usually give her a small gift as well (like a sweater, hat/gloves, slippers, etc.) however I feel that recently, she has really gone above and beyond to give my kids generous and very thoughtful gifts for their birthdays and the holidays. What is a nice gift I can give her? She is very low key, into her family and faith. |
Cross necklace, something very high quality but not flashy like full of diamonds |
A nicer bonus. $$$$
(It’s kind of you to recognize her hard work!) |
Give her the same kind of gift but increase her bonus. |
Agree money is best! |
I was a nanny for 15 years. Some stand out gifts:
-Barefoot Dreams cardigan + Ugg slippers -Any kind of membership you have that you can add her (and her family?) to like gym, museum, etc. -If you travel for work and have a lot of miles, many families gift their nanny a roundtrip plane ticket -Any benefits you can add like more PTO, phone stipend, quarterly car detail if she uses her car for work -A date night cooking class for now-DH and I with a nice bottle of wine to bring -One family gave me a simple necklace with the kids' birth stones and I loved it. -One family that I cooked dinner for starting buying extra so I'd have enough to bring home every night for DH and I. Now that was nice to not have to cook dinner at work and then go home and cook another meal for us! But yes cash is king |
CASSSHHHHH |
Give a cross pendant ONLY if she is extremely religious. Cash is king and is always the perfect color and perfect fit. She may have something that she wants but has never told anyone. |
Nanny gifts should have three parts
1) handwritten note or card of appreciation from the parents 2) art made by the kids: like an ornament or card drawn by the kids 3) cash |
Does she have a car? We bought our nanny a new set of tires one year. This was on top of the personal gift and bonus. |
Extra bonus day if two off if you can swing it. Restaurant gift card to a restaurant you know she and her spouse like. |
Cool thank you! It seems so common sense but this is super helpful. I assume no issue if in addition to cash plus kid gift, we throw in a token gift? She really likes some of our candles and they are pricy so always nice to get as a gift (at least I enjoy them haha). |
First off, OP you seem like a great employer. Secondly, this poster is right. The gifts are fun but a handwritten card and taking time to make something with the kids (because we nannies do this ALL the time but we don’t usually get it back) is so sweet and special. Thirdly, are these diptyque candles? Because my bosses have those and I so covet them!!! |
Cash is the language!! |
A cross???? No thank you!!!! - nanny |
