covid joke question

DH showed me a Covid joke sketch on SNL, where people purposefully get Covid to get off of work.

Are we at the point where we can joke about Covid like this?

I’m not. But I guess they are. I suppose they don’t know anyone who died of covid or who has long covid?

1,000,000 deaths was not enough . . . ?

You do not understand humor, OP. What do you think Ukrainians hiding in basements for 6 months under brutal Russian occupation have talked about? Noir humor, to remind themselves they're still alive.

Here's my favorite quote illustrating that, from Mel Brooks:

"Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall into an open sewer pit and die."

I guess I just have residual angst from Covid and it's still not funny. We all had real life and death fears. I can laugh about the things I had to do when we went into lockdown with kids in the house, etc...but I'm not there yet to laugh about purposefully getting it like the SNL skit portrayed. But DH thought it was so funny?

That was actually part of the sketch. Did you watch it?

I didn’t watch the skit but get it. It’s been through our house three times now. The first time was total worry about isolation and not having others get it. The second time when others got it, it was a pain hit something to deal with. Now my teens were like - yay! No school!

Well the fourth time might permanently take away their sense of taste like it did for my family member. Ha ha ha that would be a riot!

I currently have Covid and found it hilarious. But I’m fully vaxed, as is everyone I know, and I didn’t lose any loved ones to it.

No, not all of us.

I didn't want to get covid because it would be an inconvenience. My whole family needing to quarantine, people judging, etc. I honestly did not "fear" it and I have a bigger chance of dying in a car accident than from Covid.

I saw the SNL sketch last night.

And laughed out loud.

Then asked myself “too soon??!”

I respect that this skit may spew very offensive to anyone who has lost someone to this awful virus.
Bar none. 💔

……………………………………….
But for me personally (who has not lost a loved one to Covid) - this skit not only made me laugh…..
It also made me feel that the worst is behind us > whether true or not.

Overall it just provided me w/some good, old-fashioned comedic relief. 🤣🤣🤣

I am only one in family who got Covid. A tooth ache is a bigger headache

Toothaches are not exactly pleasant so weird comparison.

For me the Ukrainian war is so much more serious and impactful. I don’t understand how people are still worried about covid (I mean I do, rationally, but I don’t have that sincere understanding, you know?)

On the other hand, people are offended about things that happened way way before covid so yeah it’s a risky joke
