Putin’s war on LGTBQI+ people

Anonymous
The Kremlin continued its war against the rights of Russian people this week by unanimously passing its strictest anti-LGBT legislation yet. It’s mostly flown under the radar, but it’s devastating news.

This is not new and has been going on for years. It was one reason I was shocked Griner would play for a Russian team. Putin is a terrible guy for a lot of reasons but this is definitely one of his top evil issues.

This is horrifying and terrible. It wasn’t long ago that this kind of stuff was happening in the United States. My prayers for the Russian people who identify as gay.

I read a New York Times article on this. It's just more "think of the kids" BS. They claim they're banning LGBTQ+ "propaganda". In other words, being visibly queer. Better not wear that rainbow tee shirt or you go to jail for "grooming". It's so ridiculous how the queerphobic people believe that people can catch the gay.

I think US LGBTQ+ community is too focus on certain issues (pronouns use etc) and doesn’t realize that in the rest of the world (not just Russia) LGBTQ+ people are literally put to death and struggle with terrible daily discrimination

I think straight people should just stop telling queer people how to act or to calm down because we have enough rights.

No, it would be good to have a vision not limited to US and advocate also for LGBTQ+ people around the world where the struggle is really a matter of life or death

So queer people should just shut up and be thankful that straight people in the US allow them to exist (for now)?

Appears Putin just doubled-down on hate, and signed yet another, even more strict law against LGTBQI+ people in Russia.

This time, he even cited our tolerance in the US as a reason.

Joke’s on him, because the Supreme Court is about to show how intolerant the US can be legally.

Equating the environment for lgbtq In the 🇺🇸 vs 🇷🇺 even if scotus rolled back laws to the 90s is crazy.

It’s what makes non-American lgbtq annoyed immensely by American lgbtq. The latter are clueless about day to day lives abroad

This is why we need to get serious about queer ideology in our schools.

Unless we win the next generation, we can come under threat at any time.

You must be straight or a millennial. I recall distinctly in the early 2000s in Virginia being keenly aware that having sex with my boyfriend was criminal and theoretically jailable. The police, while I doubt they would have actually done it, we’re certainly aware of it as well and used it to leverage compliance. As recent as 2016 it was illegal for gay married couples to adopt in Mississippi.

The US is not as far away from Russia as you might think.

This isn' t really news. They have been persecuting lgbtq+ people for years.

That is really sad. My heart breaks.
