Positive parent view of JFK HS IB Regional

Anonymous
I'm not a DCUM regular (so I likely won't see any follow up to this post) but wanted to post that we've been very happy with JFK's IB Regional Magnet, because it doesn't get a lot of attention and I couldn't find much before my student decided to go there instead of home school. My student is in 10th grade and 2nd cohort of the magnet program. The program has been really good for them in a lot of ways. The teachers have been good, and they love the special attention and having a cohort. The first semester (also the first semester returning from Covid) was hard because they wanted to see their friends at the home school, but they are so glad they chose to stick with it and couldn't wait for 10th grade to start. Some new clubs are getting off the ground, and they've also joined LTI this year. My student has never complained about any school safety issues, and the administration has been great on multiple fronts. I don't know the return rate to home school, but she has a strong, close group of friends who have stayed and study together, etc.

I forgot to mention that I'm a big fan of IB teaching and think it gives them a college admission advantage. They also take AP classes - got a 5 on the first one which was a huge celebration after having a challenging middle school experience when it was hard to develop teacher relationships in a big school plus Covid.
