Food, Cooking, and Restaurants
What do parents in other cultures serve their children as first foods? I was just feeding my 8 month old powdered rice cereal, pureed carrots, and Gerber Graduates Puffs and thought there must be better first foods than this... I'd love to hear what other parents do!
Neither of my kids like the cereal or the jarred foods. I gave them rice, mashed potatoes made from scratch (used formula or breast milk instead of cow's milk), the veggies from a pot of corned beef. By nine or ten months they got the corned beef as well.
Bananas and avocados at 4 months to start solids.
Fool- mashed fava beans made with garlic, lemon, cumin, garlic, and parsley
Wow, I'd love to see a baby's face the first time they try this first food.

I know you said around the world, but I am American and have not given my child the typical rice cereal, jars, and puffs.
My baby's first food was bananna and then moved him to avocado. He is 6mos and eats avocado daily, mixed with something different. I've been on an avocado and baked butternut squash kick this week. What I really like about avocado is that it really fills him up. He had been waking A LOT in the night, but once I started avocado, he slept throught he night once, but normally will now only wake once to nurse. |
I would love to hear how you prepare the avacado...do you just mash it up?
In India, rice and daal (lentils). Comfort food that kids love.
I'm American, but my kids ate avocado and mashed-up black beans with rice.
