We have some people in our family who seem to benefit from low carb meals, and some teen athletes who need all the carbs and calories they can inhale, so I've been trying to serve meals that are low carb with a carb on the side.
But my kids are bored with the sides I offer. I'm someone who loves to cook, it's my hobby, so they're a little spoiled and are used to having tasty food, and plain rice, or dinner rolls aren't cutting it. Suggestions? |

Crash hot potatoes are soooooooo good.
Instead of plain rice, cook it with homemade bone broth (sub for the water) and fresh herbs for savory European cuisine dishes, or make a simple sticky rice by adding extra water and a longer cook time and at the final step add salt, rice wine vinegar and mirin (add the sweet wine while it’s steaming hot so the alcohol cooks out). My kids love homemade crackers too, which are very cheap and an excellent way to use of sourdough starter if that’s the thing you have going on too. Homemade cornbread but cook it in the waffle iron instead of in bread or muffin form. |
