I walk almost daily on the closed section so I am thrilled with this decision:

Great news - the park will finally get to be a park and not another traffic sewer for Maryland commuters.

Shifting all of the Maryland commuter traffic directly onto residential streets. Yay?

What a horrible decision. Just makes the upcoming Connecticut Ave induced traffic apocalypse worse by taking away one of the alternate routes.

Mass transit is your friend.

I live on one of those streets and still support it - we have some counter measures that can be taken if needed though I'm skeptical they will be.

It should be closed to foot traffic as well. Let wild spaces be wild, without human interference.

There are hundreds of other miles of streets in DC that people can stroll on.

As it is, Connecticut Avenue currently has two through lanes and Beach Drive is closed. So, whatever there is now, it will be about the same.

Good for you I guess but I live on another and don't support it. There are no effective counter measures, traffic laws are not enforced, and people drive like absolute maniacs even when there are kids going to school in packs.

Countermeasures? For keeping cars off streets?

But not your car, right?

Boo. Why were the roads built? Such a waste

Lovely. So the rich people that paid to live in the parkway have lobbied hard enough to get it to stay shut.
