Current Retake Policy

Anonymous
Is there an official current MCPS policy on retakes?

Yes, but it is very broad with the only consistency being that
A) at least some assignments must be eligible for retake.
B) the retake grade only replaces the first try if it is higher.
C) if one student can redo, all students can redo.

Otherwise, schools, departments, or individual teachers can decide:
A) how many assignments can be redone
B)how many times an assignment can be redone
C) what can be required of students who want to redo the assignment

All task assessment can be retaken but it is teacher discretion. Anything as a unit assessment (test, project, etc.) is allowed not to be retaken by a teacher.

The grading policies (A/B=A, no finals) favor grade inflation so much that I have really clamped down on my retakes now that we are moving out of pandemic ways of managing things.

I allowed retakes on my first exam this quarter but not on my second. Probably none next quarter. Instead students get detailed study guides modeled on the test questions.

Why is this a good idea?
