3yo used to sleep 7:30-7:00 and often 7:30-7:30. I know, I know. Now that she's getting older she appears to need less sleep. I am really reluctant to do a later bedtime, as my DH and I are early birds and I would lose alone time with him in the evenings. Is 7:30 too early a bedtime?
She naps at daycare, sometimes. Not consistently. Still in a crib but we are about to transition to a bed. |
My 3yo sleeps 7:30 or 8:00 until 6 or 6:30. It depends a bit on whether it’s a school day. For example it’s harder to get her down on a school night since she had a nap and it’s often closer to 8:15. Weekends she doesn’t nap and she’s out by 7:30, often asking to go to bed even earlier. |
My 7 and 3 year old share a room and we aim to have them both in bed by 7:30. The older child normally falls right to sleep while my 3 year old reads to themself or fidgets with small toys in bed. They still nap at daycare so stay up a little later in bed.
Both wake up around 6:30. |
Mine sleeps 7:30-7am. So does her 6YO sibling for that matter. |
Mine goes to bed between 7:30 and 8, but now she stays up and plays in her bed, even after the lights have gone out. |
My 3yo goes to be around 8PM (although she rarely sleeps before 8:30/9), up around 7AM. I would love to switch that to 7-6AM (also an early bird myself) but unfortunately the daycare nap schedule of 1-3PM means she's simply not tired until 8 at absolutely earliest. When she doesn't nap on the weekends, she sleeps a solid 7-7 but she's not really ready to drop the nap regularly yet. |
My 3.5 DD and almost 6 DS go to see at 7 and wake up at 7. No naps. |
My seven year old goes to bed at 7:30! Not too early at all. |
Not too early. In the next year your DC will get ready to drop the nap altogether and bedtime will shift to later until you make the transition to no naps. Then it may shift back to 7:30. |
Thanks everyone. Really helpful!
She has been sick lately AND it's been getting colder while she often fights wearing her cold-weather pjs, and I think DH may be jumping to the conclusion that she simply needs less sleep while this is a temporary disruption. |
Don't forget the time change is coming. 7:30 will feel later to her that first week. |
Ooo yes |
7/7:30-6:30 |
Without a nap so by 3.5ish 730-730. Do what works for your family. |
My 3.5 yr old naps occasionally, maybe 2x/week. On no nap days she goes down around 7:30 and wakes up around 6:30. On nap days we still do bed time at the same time but she tends to play in bed until 8:30ish. I often need to sign back on to work at night and she seems happy in bed so I’m not really questioning it. Wakes up the same time regardless of when she goes to sleep. |
