Why no MCEA endorsement for At-Large?

Anonymous
I understand why Yang, Rivera Oven, and Coll were endorsed over the incumbents (and agree), but does anyone know why Mike Erickson wasn't endorsed?

Who’s Mike Erickson?

There’s your answer.

The shocking question is why they didn’t endorse Karla Silvestre over Mike Erickson. He has been very unwilling to outline his views but from what anyone can tell he seems very Youngkin like.

Because she's an incumbent, and they don't want to endorse any incumbents.

With good reason. They provided a contract to Dr. McKnight after two unions gave her a vote of no confidence.

Read this one (maybe only one?) interview with Erickson and you'll see why:

I need MCEA to put all their endorsements in writing so I know who to vote against. The apple ballot usually makes it easy.

Bigger question is how did he make it through the primary? How much do voters hate Silvestre that they would rather have someone who didn't even campaign?

There were four candidates in the primary, and the top two advance to the general. Silvestre received 55.79% of the vote, Erickson 17.13%, Fryar 15.20%, and Giandomenico 11.88%.

They hate her a lot.

Mike Erickson is basically a Trumpist. IDK whey they didn't endorse Sivestre.

I'm not a Trumpist. I'm probably the furthest thing away from a Trumpist there is.

But I voted against Silvestre. She didn't stand up to ANY of the bad decisions made by MCPS or the BOE these past two years. At least if he wins he'll balance out McKnight.

Sorry. Supporting Erickson makes you a trumpist by proxy.

The issue is that by not endorsibg anyone they are taking the cowardly oath of endorsing Mike Erickson or hoping Karla wins because she's got more name recognition and is actively campaigning vs whatever Mike Erickson is doing. (And a person who can't be bothered to campaign or make a website or participate in any forums does not inspire in my confidence that they are motivated to do their job on a school board

I don't see why it's "cowardly." They're not interested in backing either candidate. Incumbents usually win, everyone realizes that.
