| Forgive me for yet another transitioning to whole milk question... We're just starting the transition off formula to whole milk and it turns out, my guy doesn't like milk cold, straight out of the fridge. His bottle is usually room temperature (at home) or warmed (at daycare), so what to do about the whole milk? Just keep trying and eventually he'll get that it should be cold? |
| why not warm it up? we give DS cold milk in a sippy throughout the day, and he seems to be getting used to it, but for his before-nap bottles we warm it. Everyone knows warm milk is supposed to be relaxing and help you sleep! Eventually he'll drop the bottles, and hopefully by then he'll also be able to drink it cold. |
| my 4-year-old still prefers milk warm, my 2-year-old wanted it cold from early on. it really isn't a problem in my opinion. |
| We still warm milk for our 4 yr old. |
| we always warm it up |
| My 3.5 year old still doesn't like cold milk. We just pour it in a coffee cup and nuke it for 30 seconds and then pour into a sippy cup. I don't like warming anything in plastic. We have him convinced that restaurants etc can't warm milk, so he will drink it cold there (grudginly). |
| OP here, glad we're not alone. I guess I just "thought" that once they get onto whole milk, they should be drinking it cold. DH certainly thinks that's the case and is somewhat perturbed by the thought of having to "warm" milk. Plus, if we warm it, that means we can't put the rest of it back into the fridge for drinking through out the day. Clearly, I'm over thinking it -- thanks for the advice! |

If you keep giving cold milk, DS will eventually get used to it and go with it. If you warm it up, you might still be warming it for the next three years, like some of the PPs. Just depends on whether or not you feel it's worth your effort to warm the milk--there's no right/wrong way to go.
Our son adapted to the milk being cold in just a few weeks and it does make it easier when we go out. |
| Try warming up the first few, but gradually make it cooler and cooler and see what happens. |
This. |
Us too. Worked for both kids. Within a week they were eagerly drinking it straight from fridge. |
Agree. DC wouldn't drink it cold initially. We warmed it slightly until he would accept it. Then we got lazy and would warm it less or not at all and see if he would drink it. I sometimes warm it at night, but usually he'll take it cold. It helps that it's now hot outside so a cold drink will be good. We were doing all this in winter. |
Is it really bad to warm up milk and store the leftover in the fridge to drink again? |
OP here -- I don't know the answer to that, it just "seems wrong" to me to throw previously warmed milk back into the fridge. Thanks to all the PP's -- I had tried transitioning DS to "cold from the fridge" breastmilk back in the day, when I was pumping; but since we switched to formula at 6 months, he's gotten used to warmed (daycare) or room temp (home) bottles. Guess it's time to try again~ |
