Why do candidates run in Non-competitive districts?

Anonymous
Why is someone like Vega, Yuripzy Morgan, Nicole Ambrosse, Heather Mizuer, Jeff Warner etc. run in districts that they CANNOT win? These are that are NOT COMPETITIVE, yet they chose to waste money on a loss. Why is that?

Vega’s district is competitive. It was held by a Republican as recently as 2016.

NP. How does this make them hate Democracy? They're just asking why they run in non-competitive districts.

They’d rather candidates run unopposed, giving voters fewer choices?

NP. I think it’s a reasonable question, OP isn’t saying they shouldn’t be allowed to run, just wondering what the motivation and incentive is to put time and money into an election campaign that you know you cannot win.

This. They are building or maintaining name recognition, learning to run or perfect campaigns. I suppose in some cases, they just want to give friends and families jobs for a bit.
