Hamilton matinee tickets - what would you wear?

Anonymous
My parents bought tickets for the whole family to see Hamilton over the holidays and I'm realizing I have no idea how people dress for this type of thing. It's a Thursday afternoon matinee, so I'm assuming that means less dressy than Friday or Saturday evening but otherwise I have no real clue. Business casual? Jeans? Something else? This will also be in Florida, so afternoon temps could range anywhere from chilly to hot.

Any outfit suggestions or ideas? Need something for both myself and 11-year-old DD.

Theater is a lot less formal than it used to be.

For your daughter, I'd say a cute skirt and top that she would probably want to wear with sneakers. Like, of these four, I think 1, 3, and 4 would all be fine.

For you, also, a cute skirt and light sweater, or flared pants with a nice top and booties.

I just saw an evening show on Broadway and people were in jeans and sneakers there. Wear whatever you want.

I agree with the above posters. Is your dd really into Hamilton? I've seen some girls dress up as their favorite Schulyer sister. I wouldn't get too dressy but, it is fun to dress up a little bit. Pants and nice shirt are fine or a dress.

Most importantly have fun!

When I was at the theater in the West End it was basically just a bunch of punters in trainers and athletic wear. We definitely felt overdressed since we dressed “for the theater.”

Sweat pants and a T-shirt is fine now, apparently. I’d say flip flops and shorts but you said it would be over the winter.

Ugh. I hate the trend of wearing whatever to the theater. Thank you OP for actually putting some effort into what you wear. I’d do a midi skirt, knee length boots and turtleneck sweater or nice blouse.

+1 That's what we wore when we saw a Broadway show in NYC. One of my teens was in joggers. It was fine.
