| My DS plays soccer and baseball fall and spring, and by the end of the season he is tired of playing both. Are there competitive soccer teams/leagues that practice 3-4 days a week and 1 or 2 games per week, but only play in the fall? Likewise, are there baseball teams/leagues that have 3-4 practices and 2 games per week but only play in the spring? |
Are you saying that your current club won't let you take the spring off and/or you've already paid for the entire year? We are at a small soccer club but still play competitive (top EDP divisions) and I'm not sure about bigger clubs, but there are a couple of kids my kids have played with who do not play in the winter and/or spring or kids who don't play fall and we only see them in the spring. I would ask your current club or if you move clubs, let them know you're only committed to the fall season. I'm positive you'll find a club that will accommodate you and your DS. Good luck! |
| Travel baseball is year round in this area. There is no half year travel baseball. That being said, you can play rec baseball either spring or fall. |
| What age are we talking about? |
OP here, middle school age. |
This, but at least in arlington on ABR, if you give up your spot on the spring team for the fall season, then it will be filled by someone else and it can be hard to get back on the team with your friends. |
| I had to ask this question when my son was in machine pitch baseball! The coaches were asking me to put him in travel and talking about "year round" baseball. He's 7, why would he need to specialize in a sport before he even hits middle school? The coaches said he would have no shot playing varsity or competitive leagues unless he did year round from an early age. Not sure if it's the DC area or if it is the current state of youth sports but I'm personally letting my children experience multiple sports before deciding on specializing, if they ever do. |
| Rec or house for both and your problem is solved. |
I have a D1 baseball player who didn’t play travel baseball until 13u. Lots of sports in the mix. You’re doing the right thing. Don’t let anyone force you into that 8u travel baseball crap! It is a grind in high school, no reason to get that started so early. |
| OP, I think the days of finite but high level youth baseball and soccer are behind us. I think it’s due to a few factors, but foremost is that youth sports is a business, and it’s hard to make money off a 2-3 month long sport season. Can someone invent a 3 or 4 season youth sports league? One organization, but kids would rotate from basketball, baseball, soccer, or lacrosse etc with 2-3 practices a week. |
Not at the middle school age- there are fewer teams. |
