I need a few small things done that will probably take three to four hours, but are just beyond my minimal skill set.
Has anyone hired from one of these apps? I also need the person to measure and buy some wood for the job. Do they go out to Home Depot (I assume I'd be paying for the time it takes) or am I expected to do that? |

There was a post on here recently about someone who hired a cleaner from Task Rabbit, and the guy had no idea what he was doing. The problem with those types of sites is that literally anyone can claim to be able to do a job, but you don’t really know what you’re going to get.
I would post on Nextdoor asking if anyone has a reputable handyman they can recommend. |

I had a few jobs that needed to be done and received a mailer for one of these services (Dobby).
First person who showed up to price out the job had absolutely zero clue what they were doing/talking about so I asked Dobby to send a few others to price out the jobs. Each person was more useless than the next - some would have created major issues if I had allowed them to do the work in the way they wanted. I ended up hiring a local handyman from my neighborhood list serve. |

OP. Thanks. I think I'll try the local route. Most I've seen are looking for larger jobs, though, so I'm concerned my piddly doorknob replacement and other tasks may not get much response.

3-4 hours is enough. It becomes a long term relationship. Be as flexible as you can on the timing. My handyman knows I will pay right away without haggling and that he can fit my small jobs in as he can. So I can text him about something small and he’ll fit me in. |
What are the other tasks outside of changing hardware? I might be willing to help. |

My neighbor used to go on tinder and find guys like electricians and plumbers. They take her out to dinner and drinks back up her place and she hit them up for repair.
She once dated one three months so he could do a new kitchen. So tinder if a lady. But Grinder is good for guys |
| Where do you live OP? I know someone who does exactly what you need but mainly works I’m moco and the lower part of hoco. |
That's such a great idea! I'll have my DH find someone on grinder |
You win. |
So the answer to contractor issues is prostitution? |
Something as simple as changing a doorknob you can probably find a neighbor to come over. Also something so little like that just get on youtube. You're not going to break anything. |
Shouldn't be a problem to get someone to do it for just a handjob. |

I’ve used task rabbit several times for hanging things on walls and other minor tasks- I just make sure I see a glowing detailed review of the same type of work I need done (and I also leave detailed reviews to help others know what the person can do).
If you’re in Dc area : https://www.fixyourhomedc.com/ The guy has been great for us and others in my neighborhood. |

Doorknobs just do it yourself. Use Youtube, it is too easy.
(I've done many doorknobs in house, I'm not handy.) |
