ARFID and meds

Anonymous
Mt DC has ARFID and has made a lot of progress over the years but still experiences a lot of distress around food and eating, especially in social situations. We have a psychiatrist appointment coming up primarily for an unrelated issue but I have been wondering if people/kids are ever put on medication (anxiety meds I assume) for this diagnosis? DC also has GAD but copes fairly well in other situations; in fact one doctor later questioned the GAD in the file. Obviously will talk to the doctor but just wondering if anyone else has gone through this.

We treated arfid (co-existing with anxiety) with anxiety meds and cyproheptadine (appetite stimulant). When we successfully got the anxiety under control, her eating -- both variety and quantity -- exploded.

Same. DD has ARFID and GAD and she takes anti-depressants and cyproheptadine.

This is OP - thank you so much for responding. My DC is miraculously not under weight so doctors have varied a bit in How seriously they take their condition. I really appreciate hearing your experience
