See through dresses

What is with this trend to wear see through dresses?

I do not like them.

You don't have to wear one. Fixed it for you. Now stop being judgemental ....

Leaves nothing to the imagination

If you don’t like then don’t wear them.
Problem solved.

NYT just had an article on this trend which was kind of interesting. Basically tied it to people owning their ish and not caring what others think.

I feel like the point of see through dresses is to wear them over something you want people to see. I wouldn't do it now, but I participated in this trend back in the 90s and had a great body. I had a few sheer dresses I'd wear over a black bodysuit and I loved that look. I've also seen it over really pretty bra and underwear (not like a thong but something that looks more like a bathing suit). Not for everyone but I liked it -- somewhere between "off duty ballerina" and "Courtney Love". With a pair of Doc Martens and dark lipstick? I looked good, sorry not sorry.

It just seems to me that different Hollywood types are trying to outdo each other with the most transparent dresses in recent weeks e.g. Florence Pugh vs Olivia Wilde.

Yeah, don't worry, I'm not going to wear one of these outfits.

I'm not sure about female empowerment when they are turning up nearly naked while the men turn up in clothes that have full coverage and provide warmth.

They're in LA, they're not cold. I think the sheer trend is boring/recycled but let's not pretend people are going to move premieres dressed for the elements

The girls now are not wearing bodysuits under, lol. The thing they "want people to see" is nipples. Which is ok with me, to be clear - your nipples, your choice. But your version sounds quaint in comparison

DP. Sheer dresses are not new, If anything the difference with these dresses is they aren't there to ornament the breast or act like pasties the way a Bob Mackie would. Sheer dresses in the 1920s weren't worn over lead boxes, seeing breasts in evening wear seems to happen generation after generation.

It is a fad for a bunch of narcissists. You have to feel sorry for them. They are so need and attention-seeking that they walk around basically naked hoping to attract attention. Hopefully they'll get the mental health treatment they need quickly.

Another odd thing is that in addition to boldly showing off their nipples, they are showing off the old fashioned granny panties that they are wearing beneath those dresses

I feel the cold. LA at 9pm today will be 63oF, and I'd sure be wearing some cover up in that temperature. I don't know how these women survive wearing next to nothing while the men with them have on trousers, long sleeves and sweaters/jackets.

Come on, you could say that for any women's evening wear. Pretty seldom that people are wearing long sleeves and lined velvet or anything that begins to offers warmth.

Yes, how does one survive standing outside briefly in a dress when it is 63 degrees?!
