3rd grade pull out enrichment?

Anonymous
We were informed that some kids will be participating in pull out enrichment for reading. Any idea what that is all about? What is the criteria? How is this different from regular guided reading groups? Thanks

LOL

Our ES did this for a few weeks and then it disappeared. Unlikely that it lasts long, but you can ask your child’s teacher.

A few years ago, I led some pullout groups working on the Words Their Way vocab series.

This usually happens once every month or two for 20 minutes. You're really on your own here.

Yep. This was our experience with a Math pull out group in ES.

Thanks for the responses. This is not the same. We are told its daily pull out for 2 weeks for novel study. That’s all we are told. No further details

The only kids at our school that get that level of attention are below grade level. Kids above grade level get warehoused.

Not the case at our school.

If they used OG or SRA Direct Instruction to begin with in K then almost nobody would need this in third grade.

It is school dependent and it often varies year by year depending on staff availability and interest and the level of the students. It's not something you can get accurate info about on this message board.

In DC's school it was 1-2 times a week by a senior teacher who had the kids reading Junior Great Books. It was my child's favorite part of the year. This was pre-pandemic so I'm not clear on the details but I remember that it didn't run consistently through the year because at some point they needed the teacher to sub for one who became ill so she was no longer able to offer the extra reading session.

In K-2nd the enrichment was pretty informal and it was a small group of 5-7 kids, but by 3rd grade I think it was almost 20 kids.

Is it Great Books?

I got an email about this too at my child’s school. At least quarterly kids will be assigned a novel to read and be pulled out to have discussion groups. Or something along those lines. They say this is enrichment…

What would you like, Karen? There are hardly enough bodies to go around as it is because teachers quit because of people like you, but sure, go ahead and whine bc they are offering your kid extra opportunities.

Wasn’t complaining at all. Literally saying what the letter said.

Just ignore the troll. There’s one angry elf on a few of these threads accusing people of random untrue things. You were fine.
