| For whom are you voting for At-Large and yes or no for Initiative 82? I could use some insight and thoughts from others. |
I'm a big Yes for I-82. I really liked restaurant service in Europe where they were paid a reasonable wage. It felt much better, and the servers we talked to there really liked it, couldn't understand why we have this weird system in the US. |

No matter how you plan to vote on 82 be advised that it is on the back of the ballot. My husband mailed his in without ever turning it over.
Wamu / DCist have a lot of coverage on it: https://wamu.org/story/22/10/20/dc-restaurants-workers-tipped-wage-service-charge-initiative-82-vote/ |
Good to know. |
| I looked for it but did not see it on the ballot. I put it in the mail today without voting on it. |

I'm voting for Elissa Silverman.
The knock on her is that she's too liberal. She has made her signature issue cracking down on wage theft. If preventing the rich from stealing from the poor is too liberal, then I'm with the too liberal. |
I would argue that while wage theft is important to her, her signature issue was sponsoring the family leave act which has been a great success. Either way, her priorities are terrific. I've seen it argued that she is soft on crime. According to today's Washington Post, she favors expanding the number of police officers while McDuffie doesn't: |
The knock on Silverman is that she's a complete nutjob (and a really awful person to boot). If you think those teenagers who beat up that old woman on the bus are the real victims, Silverman is your candidate. She is like a parody of liberalism. |
| Would you all share your thoughts on McLaughlin and Bonds? |
Bonds is a disaster. She oversees DCHA which HUD just reported is a disaster with the highest number of vacant units of any jurisdiction. Twenty-five percent of the units are empty. Bonds has done nothing about it. I don't know anything about McLaughlin. |

Bonds is awful awful awful. I think she is the worst member of council.
I’m voting for Silverman, I like her oversight lens and think the council needs a lot more of it. Figuring out who to cast my second vote for has been tough. |
This is what primarily moved me to start this thread. I feel fine about Silverman, but don’t know who I would choose as a second vote. I believe I know how I’ll vote about 82 however, other’s thoughts are appreciated- especially those who are in the restaurant service industry. |
I find Silverman too much of a bully to have my vote, despite us sharing similar views. She has been awful to a few close friends, so I am done with her. I am leaning Karim or Graham. |
Bonds is absolutely awful. The Housing Authority is a mess and she was in charge of it. I don't love Silverman, but I do think she is competent. |
