How are SATs scored?

Anonymous
I am seeing people post that 1560 is too low to submit to certain schools. This is out of 1600.
Is it that easy to get a top score, such as an old school 1500 is now a 1650, and you get a 1600?
I thought once you get close to 1600 the curve drops off.

It could have been sarcasm, in response to a question whether one should submit a 1560, which question was essentially pretext for bragging about the score on an anonymous message board, a concept that is difficult to comprehend.
