I'd love to try pickleball. Anyone know of places in DC, ideally, or Silver Spring or Arlington where I could learn? |
Arlington County parks and rec has outdoor pickleball classes in the spring, summer and fall. Arlington County also has indoor pickleball classes at Lubber Run all year long for those 55 and older. |
Senior living facilities or so I’m told |
There's a clinic in Falls Church this weekend at the Tennis Store.

Where do you live? |

Isn’t pickleball for senior citizens |
NO! all ages play. Watch who's playing on tv. |
Like any other sport, it can get pretty competitive for some people.
Look at the rec centers near you. The seniors and those who don't need to work are usually the ones playing in the daytime at rec centers or outside. You can usually get some 'free lessons' by playing with them. Just tell them you are a newbie. They are pretty much kicking tennis out by converting alot of the courts to pickle ball courts. Or at least add the pickle ball lines on top of the tennis courts. |
anywhere in Bethesda? |
I just started taking lessons through parks and rec this fall, and I'll tell you --- I don't know how seniors play this! It is EXHAUSTING! I'm literally huffing and puffing to catch my breath. I suppose part of that is (a) playing singles, and (b) playing with others who are just learning and the ball is going all over the place. But DANG! This is really seriousl exercise. I am 122 lbs. 53 yrs old. I swim twice a week, doing yoga most days and walk 3 miles almost every day. I also do some dumbbell weights. So, I'm not out of shape or an old lady. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it so far. It's like tennis without having to serve a perfect serve. I can see how it would be less taxing with doubles... but I don't think I could play this hard for an hour! I'd drop over for sure. |
there's a league in Rockville |
The current champ is about 16, I think. |
