I ordered a 2022 Silverado in fall 2021 for delivery in spring 2022. As the date neared, my sales guy let me know that two parts were on backorder & delivery wouldn't happen until late July. Then it was fall 2022 and then I was notified that production for any more 2022 models had ceased. I went in and spoke with them, got a bunch of upgrades & money off, and was told I'd be getting a 2023 model in early 2023. Now my guy contacted me in the middle of last week to let me know I wouldn't get a model until 2024. He gave me more incentives to stick with them, too. He also sent me a photo of a giant field of trucks and said mine was in there and they were all waiting on chips.
My current truck will be lucky to make it to 2023, to be honest. I went to a Ford dealer to speak with them but heard about the same "production halted... can't guarantee 2023 models..." Now I'm trying to figure out my next move. I'm a contractor and must have a truck instead of car. Anyway, what happens with all those 2022 models once those chips come in? Or do they just get dismantled? My sales guy said it was between 70k and 90k vehicles waiting for chips that are model year 2022. |
2022 cars will be sold, either with a slight discount or as a demo model. Before COVID, plenty of unpopular cars were sold the year after they were made.
I get a company car and they work with a fleet company to buy direct from manufacturers (in other words, the supply chain crunch isn't quite as bad for them). I ordered a 2022 in April and it was supposed to be delivered in 4-8 weeks. They ultimately told me they couldn't deliver and had to get me a 2023 model. The 2023 model was delivered to me a few weeks ago. Here's the rub... most of the features in the 2022 model are not in the 2023. They just dumbed the car way down in order to push them out.
We are in the market for a new car and found none to test drive at the dealerships. We ended up at a used car dealer, where people are getting on the waiting lists for cars, buying them and then selling them to dealers for a profit. If you are really in need of a car and willing to pay a bit over invoice, check for used "new" cars with only a few hundred miles.
Ford has stopped delivering thousands of vehicles because it’s supplier isn’t delivering the trademark “blue oval” emblem.
We ordered a 2022 Porsche SUV in March/April and received it in August. Paid sticker. Trucks may be higher demand. Can you buy a used truck?
Ordered an X7 in February from Rockville BMW and received it in March. Production started 10 days after I ordered it and wasn’t convinced it was going to be delivered in 30 days as promised. Was shocked when I got the call to pick it up two days before it was due. Assembled in SC.
