Tryouts for JV soccer?

Anonymous
When do these happen, usually? I know it’s easy but I am trying to figure out if an August vacation is feasible or if it would mean missing the try-puts for JV. My kid is currently in 8tj grade. We can’t go the first week, so I was thinking of going the second and third week of August.
Thank you for any help you can provide.

Our HS tryouts started August 10 this year. JV soccer first, then both through the weekend. I'm sure other schools vary.

3rd week is definitely out, 2nd week probably out. They started on the 10th this year, but I don’t know the exact date for next year.

I think it's typically the Wed of the 2nd week of August, which August 10 was in 2022. The county sets the "practice/try outs" begin date. The "No cut" teams may push it to a few days later, but not the teams with cuts.

Yeah it was august 10 this year. Don't plan anything after the second week

I think it may be August 9 for next year. I know our fall coaches actually told us the date of next year's tryouts.

Either way - 2nd week is also out for vacation.

Some kids do training camps the first week of August. Some of the teams are very hard to make.

Our school made it clear that if you weren’t there on August 10 don’t even bother. Not sure how much they hold to it but do know of one kid who came back from vacation after that date and was told no. And it wasn’t for soccer, but for a much more ‘flexible’ type of sport.

That was the case at our school (Whitman). There was a training camp the week before tryouts that wasn't mandatory but the vast majority of the kids did. And no exceptions for tryouts - you had to be there and then of course be there for the full pre-season.

So much for equity.
