Live in Petworth- soccer recommendations for a 3.5 or 4 year old? Not sure if we'd start now

Or if we even could. So will probably start in the spring. DD is fascinated with soccer balls and kicking them. Appreciate any recommendations! Thank you!

Just let the kid play with the ball and invite some kids over, or take a ball to the park and ask kids to play. You don’t want to schedule his play. He’s too young. There’s plenty of time. Put the money in the college fund and let him just play.

I'm going to dissent and recommend Takoma Park Soccer. It is inexpensive as far as these programs go and basically just soccer related games at that age, which both of my kids loved.

But yes, probably starting in spring at this point.

It’s not too early. Several kids in my 3.5 year old’s class have been going to soccer for months already.

we did Kicks are for Kids (KAFK) for our 2.5 year old and it is pure chaos, don't expect them to become Messi in 6 weeks, but it was fun to run around and play with the other kids while sort of learning some skills (sorta).

Don't pay for anything organized at this age unless you have a ton of money and nothing to do with it. Wait until 5+.

Whether you wait or not, I would recommend DC Soccer once your kid gets into Kindergarten. The fields they play on are Upshur and Raymond, so super convenient.

Also, it's a nice way to get to know a subset of the kids/families in their elementary school, which was nice for us because it was a new school. They typically make the teams according to which school you go to.

My son and his friends (all with fall birthdays) did a soccer league this fall. All the kids were generally 4-5. It’s cute but my son and a couple of the other kids spent a few weeks not wanting to participate and just wanting to stand with their parents and maybe play with them. They eventually got the hang of it. It’s mostly fun skills oriented games at this point. You may not get a ton out of it until closer to 4.5/5 but I think 4 is a good introduction age.

My kid did Soccer Shots at that age. It definitely didn’t make him Messi (lol) but he loved it and it wasn’t very expensive. It was a good introduction to organized sports.
