| If you heard this from the college itself (eg an AO or at info session), please name the school. It would be helpful to know where to truly go TO. Thanks! |
| If you're white and well off, don't submit scores below the school's current (TO-inflated) median. Period. If you don't meet those criteria, it's more complicated. |
+1 no school wants to accept a student whose scores will pull down their average even though the averages are skewing higher because of this |
| I have no inside info, but common sense suggests that none of them do. Only a score above the 50th percentile helps you. |
I disagree. It looks bad if they only have a low percentage of kids reporting scores and that’s where we’ll end up. I’ve heard schools say to just look at the 25-75 range, which some refer to as 50th. |
You should be ignored. The median answer is the correct one. |
| Notice how no one can actually name a school. If you are unhooked, you need a score unless you are applying to a school where your grades are above their 95th percentile. |
|
By definition 50% of admitted students have scores below 50%.
The real question for DCUM use’s is “ which schools admit unhooked UMC white kids with scores below their 50%?” Answer: none of the high rank ones you ideally want. |
People in another thread kept saying not to submit below 50th. Where are they now to show us where they learned this? |
No they don’t. You miss the point entirely. |
Way more than 50% will have scores below the 50th percentile of those who chose to submit at a TO school. |
| Colgate said submit scores if they are in the 25% or better. That was within the last two weeks. |

No insight from AO but I think this is dependent on child’s score and individual school. Very generally, the higher the score, regardless of where falls in school distribution, may want to send.
For example kid scores a 1450 and has great grades, rigor and ECs - may want to send to a school where below 50% to show strong test taker. |
Omg, bonkers. Every school will have like a 34 average ACT with 30% of students submitting scores. |
| I’ll name a specific school: UMiami. Maybe not where your kid wants to go, but mine does and they specifically said that. Several others on my DC’s list said the same. I won’t name them because I’m sure DCUM will not approve |
