Fusion schools - please only feedback from parents with experience

Anonymous
Hello. I am hoping to hear from current or past parents with children who attended one of the Fusion schools in the DMV. There are campuses in NOVA, DC and Rockville.

It is an alternate private school model for students who benefit from 1 on 1 instruction. It is obviously not the ideal school for most students. However. Our teenager is very bright with LDs and intense anxieties.

I would love to hear from parents with experience as to whether this school was able to meet the needs of their children.

Thank you

Also try posting on the SN forum. I have many friends with autistic children who have tried fusion and it has worked well for some of them.

My nephew is ASD (high functioning) and Fusion was the only school that worked. They tried everything else.

Definitely post in the SN forum. Lots of families with anxiety over there. We had a positive experience at the Tysons campus. I really liked the teachers and staff there. They did a great job of meeting my student's needs academically. We saw huge gains after an abysmal covid era at another area private school. The missing piece is socialization, but it's the nature of the model.

Thank you.

They told me they build socialization experiences into the day and have field trips and even a prom. Is that not really true? Or do you mean that it is not the scale of different social experiences afforded at mainstream schools? I think the latter may be a plus for students with social anxieties but they still need friends …

They really don't pay their teachers much. They only pay them for 10 minutes to plan the lessons, which is nowhere near enough time to design a personalized lesson. They have a lot of teacher turnover as a result.

Teacher quality varies but my kid did well there. I would go for however long your child needs to return to normal school. After awhile it can feel small.

We have had our child at the Tyson campus and are pleased. The ideal will be to move to a regular private school for high school for increased socialization, but Fusion has been wonderful academically.
