WHEN to hold birthday?

Anonymous
LO's birthday is Dec. 30th. Up until now we've just done family celebrations but she keeps talking about wanting to have a birthday party and invite her friends for her fourth birthday. The 30th is a Friday. That Saturday is New Year’s Eve and that Sunday is New Year's Day. The prior Saturday and Sunday are Christmas Eve and Christmas so that's not an option.

What date would you hold a party to maximize the chances of people being able to attend? Friday the 30th? During the morning/daytime on the 31st even though it's New Year’s Eve?

I would wait until Saturday the 7th. People will have too many plans and trips around the holidays.

Weekend of December 17th.

This. There’s exactly one weekend between New Year’s and MLK Day, which I learned last year was used for parties by kids with birthdays from Dec. 20-Jan. 15. This year my end-of-December birthday kid’s party is Dec. 18.

I’d go with early-mid JAN.

Too early and too far removed.
Too crazy too. People are scurrying around with upcoming holiday and travel plans.

Go with Jan.6/7/8.

No one’s going to come to a kid’s bday on the 2nd - everyone is either traveling or hungover in bed.

People are busy in December with parties, shopping and traveling. January is a good time because things have quieted down.

my bad. I would do Sun 1st then in the afternoon. Most people with small kids ( OPs kid is turning 4) are not going ti be hungover. I think it’s a nice way to end the holiday period before going back to work/school/daycare.

I'm not a stickler for the party being close to the birthday, so I'd probably wait a couple weeks into January and do it then. I wouldn't do it before. The last thing I want is another commitment with all the craziness leading up to Christmas.
