| I think this counts as a design question, so hopefully it's the right forum even if a little offbeat. I want to find a mosaic kit for my kids to repurpose some sea glass - into coasters or picture frames. All I can find so far are kits that come with pieces of glass. I don't need that - I just need the rest of it (the molding material, the frame or coaster, etc). Any ideas of where to find this - I'd appreciate specific links because my generic searches aren't producing what I'm looking for so far. Thanks in advance! |
I’d go to Michael’s and get small pieces of wood the size you want. Then I’d glue the pieces on using E6000. Then I’d grout the piece. Your other option is to get small plastic trays the size you want. Coat with petroleum jelly. Lay the pieces in the bottom. Then fill with a cement type mixture - use grout or get something from Michael’s. I do large mosaics and have expensive molds. But really cheap thin plastic works and it’s easier to remove the finished project |
| Some of those kits just contain Plaster of Paris which you can buy at the hardware store. You can use whatever disposable container you like. The glass pieces are set in top of the plaster. I know that might not be the mosaic process described above but it's easy for kids. |
