Invited to Maggianos Murder Mystery Dinner for a friend’s birthday next Friday, what to wear?

What do you wear to these? I’m not wearing a costume fwiw it seems sometimes people do. But because it’s a special occasion I need tips. What should I wear?

I went thrifting and got a 1920s inspired sequin/fringe dress and wore it with a fuzzy cheetah cardigan, black flats, and red lipstick. I got about 1000 compliments that night!

I wouldn't say costumes but dressed in theme, yes. Like I could walk down the street and look acceptable no one would point me out as going to a costume party, but yes everyone was in some sort of theme
