I would like to take one month off from a daycare. Obviously I do not want to pay tuition if my child is not attending. Please advise me on the best plan of action. Thank you |
You have to pay tuition if you want them to hold your spot. |
Give up your spot and hope they have a new one in a month. |
You still pay, or you give up your spot. |
Hahaha I knew what this post was going to be about before I saw it. You still have to pay. |
pay |
I used to joke with DH that we weren’t paying for daycare. We were paying for the spot and the care was a nice fringe benefit. |
Sign him up for somewhere new for when you return, because your spot at current daycare will have been filled with a paying client. |
Are you in this area? Do you need a spot when you get back? If yes to both, pay. If no to both, leave your daycare a try to find a new one when you get back. |

Make sure you send them the check for the months you’re not attending before your baby’s break. Personally, I would not accept you back as a client if you gave up your spot for a month just to try and come back a month later. |
I would accept them back. At a higher rate! OP, you definitely need to pay during the break unless it’s a forever break. |
Yeah, sorry OP. You pay for what you don’t use. Keep in mind daycares often struggle to stay afloat. I have occasionally seen home daycares make it work to let teachers off the hook for the summer care they don’t need, if they can juggle spots to fill the space. But in general they can’t fill that spot so you can’t expect them to let you off the hook for tuition. |
I suspect this is a troll post, but I’ll bite. Withdraw your child if you don’t want to pay - and give whatever notice is required to get your deposit back. |
There should be a pinned post at the top of this forum about this question, since it keeps coming up and getting people worked up.
No, you cannot stop paying for a month and expect your provider to save your spot. |
